the problem is not all of africa is poor, most of what is shown on the news and what people say is often skewed and exaggerated. there are lots of good parts of africa that somehow the media always forgets to mention.

to meghan america has con artists too, you don't judge a country because of the choices of others.
to rak i am not trying to come off as a snob only trying explain the situation as it is people in africa look after their own too i never said they shouldn't talk about only the poor parts of africa. all i am trying to say is that there is more to africa than meets the eye and that the media should let it be known.

People seem to feel the need to find out where they stand in relation to others. The U.S. has a long history of keeping blacks down so they will jump to conclusions about them no matter where they're from. And the bottom line is people are stupid and small minded. We have a very biased view of Africa and pretty much every other country because the news is biased and only shows the things that are sensationalized. Most Americans like to think they are superior to everyone ridiculous as that makes us appear to the rest of the world.Sad but true

I'm sure there are good parts of Africa but the media doesn't 'forget' to cover them, they are covering the places that actually need attention in hopes that aid will be sent, not your rich neighborhoods.

ok, sorry.

those people who think they're better than you probably feel superior to a whole lot of people, not just Africans. don't let their ignorance bother you. i think it's exciting to meet people from other countries and learn about their culture. some people don't understand that their way of life is not the only way of life. you should feel sorry for them that they'll experience so little in life.

Let's face it, Africa is a poor country. I'm from the Philippines, it's a poor country but it's not as poor as Africa. I mean it's close.

It's not a right judgment but we're all humans.

Perhaps they should have a better look at a beautiful zebra, its silly, its always the lense a person is viewing the world from, next time it happens ask them what international countries they have gone to or lived in. Imagine other countries that have oh, I don't know, teddy bears, bouncing balls, and running water ... issolation is proven to make people unstable.

I am sorry you are treated this way.

I had an African friend (Nigerian, just like you) who had the same problem.

I am seeing many racist and unkind answers to your question. I am also seeing much misinformation about your country.

Just know that not every American thinks this way.

I am not seeing where anyone gets "snob" from this young Lady's post. I am seeing some sentences that are not in perfect English but, well, she is not a native English speaker.

I ask you... if you were posting in something that is not your native language, would you do as well as she is?

I'll tell you why....Because our inbox's are flooded with messages from NIGERIA, telling us some rich oil tycoon died and left 786Million USD burried in the gorund and to give them our checking account information, so they can deposit the money. Supposededly I am next of kin to all of Africa.....last time I checked I was white. Not black.

If it bothers you that much, I'm sure your home land would love to have you back.

It's human nature. We all do it in different ways and it all depends whom we measure ourselves up against. People don't admit they do it, but they do.

People who are doctors think they are better than people who are teachers.

People who telemarket think they're better than people who work at McDonalds.

People who are Americans think they're better than people who are Mexicans.

People who are famous think they're better than people who aren' famous.

etc.
etc.
etc.

It's because of the reputation Africa as a whole has. BTW, Africa is a CONTINENT, not a country.

cuz africa is not a provished country,,, it is home and origin to more deseases than any other country, and our country(the u.s.) send billions of dollars a year to people there in need of aid. some people feel the way you say in part because of resentment and in part because they truly are more fortunate than you are, by being raised in america as opposed to africa
