Ideally they can still respect, but a lot of people choose not to. It's a game of one-upmanship. Also, a lot of people don't like to be objective in their thinking and become defensive of their viewpoint, and sometimes their defense is to take the offense.

Whether we accept it or not, we are creatures of a pack. We each want to belong to the strongest and most influential because logic says that you stand a better chance in a mob than you do alone. We are not that far removed from the animals in the sense of community(territorial) and reproduction (seeking the strongest character). The battle of wills is simply an attempt to recruit new members into our pack. Some of us know there is no need but unfortunately the majority still believe that in order to better ourselves we have to change what is outside ourselves.

I wouldn't necessarily say people are ignorant towards those who are different from themselves, but people do tend to distance themselves, from those who are different.
I think mostly this has to do with people being afraid of what they don't know, and don't understand. We fear the unknown, so when people act, look or sound different different, we don't know how to react, and therefore distance ourselves form them.
This could come out as being ignorant, and judgmental, but really, it's just fear.
This is why education is so important. We need to learn about other ways of living, other cultures, and about respect for those who are different.

It's because some think if you are different, then you don't have a right to or should not be respected instead of living by the rule of treat people the way they want to be treated.

I was raised to respect the cultures and religions of others. I have noticed that many young people today do not. Sometimes people are afraid of things and people they don't know. It would be wise if the schools taught more about all cultures.

That begins at childhood. If you are not taught at a relatively early age that there is more to the world than what surround the immediate area surrounding you then as you get older you might not be able to understand, adapt or maybe even respect other cultures.
"As humans we fear what we dont know." I forget who said that but it does ring true.

I pick my questions carefully. If it is something I know is not right then I say this is not right and prove it. Some things just can't be respected. But I respect your right to ask this question.

It is a early human trait to notice different type people than your self.
In tribal life it can mean life or death.
Now days it is a social problem but it is in us and we all do it.
We are most comfortable around people that are most like ourself, our color, religion, intelligence level etc.
We are not ignorant but very observant. WE are getting more and more acclimatized to keeping our politically incorrect verbalization's to ourselves
Get used to it as it is human and we don't like change much

Ignorant people are everywhere.. You can't get rid of them... Somehow they think they're better than other people... And also this kind of people don't educate themselves, that's why they're ignorant and arogant

Yes even if they don't agree. Doesn't Jesus say to love your enemies? So is we are supposed to love our enemies, shouldn't we at least be showing kindness to someone who simply diagrees w/ us?
