I'm a student wanting to buy my first car, I really want an 03-05 mustang because I have always found them attractive and, well, I like sporty cars.. I wanted the v6 at first but then someone told me that I should really go for the v8 because the v6 is really underpowered. I blew them off at first, then they came back and said that the M.P.G rating isn't very different from the non gt to the gt. I want a reasonably affordable car that is also hella fun to drive.

How would you compare the two?

well thing is, I am looking for one between 10 and 14k, I found a nice 04 v6 for 12k and a decent 03 v8 for 14. I'm not exactly Mr Moneybags.

what are the MPG ratings of the two?

I was interested in an 06 civic ex at one point, but then realized the money that I would save on gas with a civic I would spend when I initially buy the car for about 8k more than a mustang.

If you can afford it don't even hesitate about buying the 8.

V6 is plenty fast for a first car!!! My daughter in a Senior in college, she got her Mustang when she was a senior in high school. She still has it! A 2001 Mustang Convertible V6, the bigger 3.8L. It goes plenty fast! She drives about 1 to 1/2 hrs a day. it is pretty good on gas, now the V8 GT, bullet or cobra etc. would use way more gas and probably a couple tickets for speeding and higher insurance!! If you are only interested in driving fast & showing off, and have plenty of money for tickets and insurance & a couple hundred bucks for gas a month then a V8 would be the one for you.
Not much difference in looks for the cost!

2005 Mustang V6 Mpg

the v6 mustang is a raving pile of sheit

the v8 is a slightly less raving pile of crap. The motor is a great motor, but the rest of the car leaves a ton to be desired. thats why a 300 hp GT (new model) can have way more power than anything else in its price range, yet still get only like 3 stars out of 5 in most tests.

and if you want a sportscar, dont look at a mustang. Theyre hardly sportscars.

they arent very fun to drive either. If you want something fun to drive, get something light and small. Its not all about power. Go buy an MR2 or similar. they hold their value much better, handle like a dream, get better MPG, and are just a blast to drive, despite not having that much power. Only downside is their essentially nonexistant cargo space, and the fact they only fit 2 people (which is a bonus in my mind, you dont have to haul around people all the time).

You will get better MPG in the V6 that is un-deniable. But the V8 isn't a total gas guzzler.

I would get the V8, no matter what anyone on here will say, the V6 is balls slow. The V8 will put hair on your chest bud. Go for it.

Well first off Mustangs are not sporty cars. V6s are for girls The V8s are a little bit better. Instead of worrying about gas mileage, which if you do you do not belong in a Mustang. Check out the insurance difference between a 6 verses an 8.

If you don't have to pay for the insurance, get the V-8, hand's down. But, It'd be real sad to use that car for a daily driver and get it beat up by stupid college kids in the parking lot. I'd get a Jetta or something like that for a daily driver and what you save on payments and insurance while you're in college you'll be able to get a mustang if you just save it. That and when you hit that magic 25, your insurance for the mustang will drop a lot if you don't have any claims /accidents.

I would definitely get the V8 over the V6, better performance and they're more fun to drive.

Get the V8 mustang it is the bigger engine. If you want to get a V6 get a ford focus or a dodge neon if you want a v6 engine. If you like sporty why not go for the COBRA its sporty and has a hell of a kick. If you want the look and your scared of the horse power then by all means get a V6 mustang but if you want the power and the sportiness then get the V8

If I were you , I wouldn't even buy a Mustang , they are cheap cars . I would go with the honda anyday . In awnser to your question though , I would never buy a v-6 mustang ever , go for the v-8 , its not much worse on gas depending on how much your foot is on the gas . I have a 03 cobra and while its a extremely fast car , its cheaply made and rides terrible on the normal (bumby) streets of the US, but good on smooth roads .
