It doesn't matter how old the universe IS what matters is how old the universe FEELS. And I'd say it feels pretty young, not a day over 13 billion years. It doesn't even have any time wrinkles yet. I wonder if it's ever gonna get a job and move out of its parents house? I think it's time the universe started acting a little more independent. Always needing to be observed and whatnot.

What was there before that? Difficult to know. How is it going to end? The ever expanding universe? Or the Big Crunch? The stable universe? The oscillating universe? There are many theories

approximately 13.5 billion years. how do we know? because all the galaxies are moving away from each other at a given rate that is, itself, increasing at a given rate. with a little calculus you can run this observation backward to a point where all the galaxies were at the same place at the same time. that point in time occurred 13.5 billion years ago.
