because people are superstitious. It is easier to skip the 13th flooe than have people scared to be on the 13th floor.

Buildings DO have a 13th floor--they just don't call it that, because of superstitious visitors and inhabitants who are afraid of the number 13. So, they use different numbers for the 13th floor, and on the elevators, etc. , so that these people don't freak out.

Some people believe in the superstition that the no.13 is bad luck and so they don't want to have a 13th floor in the building.

It's a given standard to number floors 12 then to 14, 15, etc., omitting a 13th floor and thus avoiding any possibilities of bad luck occurring to anyone. jhr4games@yahoo.com

Friday the 13th has been considered unlucky by many ever since the Catholic Pope and the King of France attacked the Knights Templar on this particular day. therefore the number 13 has become an unlucky number.

Because 13 was a beneficial number to the pagans, so the christian church forced the belief that 13 was a horrible number associated with bad luck and demons to further squash pagan culture. After 1700 years of this programming, it is part of our culture. and some elevators don't have it...I have only seen a few that don't, most do.
I happen to like the number 13. Friday the 13th has always been pleasant for me.
