I was born and raised in Detroit. I have not lived there for 25 years. The diversity in Detroit was not a problem, but the leadership was. I was surprised when I moved to Atlanta, Georgia. The big businesses did not move out because of black leadership. The city still thrives because of cooperation between may groups of people. I suppose Detroit had bad luck.

Detroit is predominently black and no, but the city is getting a face lift in some areas. Around Comerica park and Ford field its all new and i think it looks great. Its still not safe at night, especially around the Cass corridor and where Tiger Stadium is off Michigan Avenue. I live in Macomb county and travel through there alot.

The problem with Detroit has nothing to do with race, but with poverty. We know that people who are impoverished are more likely to commit crimes in order to survive (I refer you to Merton's strain theory). There are no studies (objective and scientific research) that proves that race alone has anything to do with crime. Black people are not more predisposed to crime just because they are black, just like whites are not predisposed to white collar crime just because they are white. We have mapped the genome - there is no "race" gene that makes you behave a certain way.
