There is a lovely book by Joan Bauer called Rules of the Road. A teenage girl who just got her license gets a job driving the CEO of the shoe store where she works, from somewhere in the midwest (MN?) to Texas. The older woman is a bit crotchety, and there is some drama about what will happen at the annual shareholder's meeting in Texas.

The first Harry Potter book has "some young kid taking off to persue his dreams". It is a light read, and funny, too. Not long and dark like the later books.

The Great Turkey Walk by [Karen?] Karr is a great story about a boy who walks a herd of turkeys from (kansas?) to Denver in the mid 1800's. It is light and funny, and a bit of history thrown in, too.

I also recommend, as they involve travelling and are not too serious:

Francesca Lia Block's Weetzie Bat books
The Great American Elephant Chase by Gillian Cross
Adam of the Road
Crispin: Cross of Lead
Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn
The Ballad of Lucy Whipple by Karen Cushman

Try The Stainless Steel Rat is Born by Harry Harrison. It's fun with a lot of travelling. It's about a kid who sets out the be the very best Master thief ever.

If you want to a good thriller to read check out "Angelhair" by Joseph Noga. It's an easy read and very hard to put down once you start it. Time will pass just as fast as the pages you will be turning. If you want a preview of the book go to the authors website www.joenoga.com Give it a look, and enjoy!

Try reading Nicholas Spark's the Rescue, it's my all time favorite. It is sorda a novel though. I've also read the Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, it's about a girl who is killed and cant seem to leave earth and be happy in heaven...

I would start with Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow," then work my way back to Joyce's "Ulysses," Pound's "The Cantos," and then Tolstoy's "War and Peace." Just read Jugz, it'll be more satisfying.
