Brackets are always done first.
The order of the other operators (highest precedence to lowest) is exponents, multiplication, addition.
For example, 3 + 2 x 4^2 = 35 ( = 3 + ( 2 x 16 ) )
We can use brackets to impose any other precedence we want, even overriding exponents.
For example, ( 3 + 2 x 4 ) ^ 2 = 121
- we do whatever is inside the brackets first, then the exponent.
You probably already knew this.

standard BEDMAS rule
i.e. Exponents,Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction in that order within the smallest bracket moving outwards and then EDMAS in that order...
thus c should be done first but within c the b will be done first followed by a and then d..

it is definitely c and the reason for that is because nothing done outside of the brackets can possibly alter the answer to what is contained by the brackets. if you have brackets inside of brackets, the deepest bracket should be completed first, since you'd have to first consider the inside bracket's answer before answering the outside bracket's, which of course, contains the inside bracket.

San is correct, what is in the brackets comes first. This is an issue that many of us learn the hard way.

it really depends....
if you have (2+3)*2, doing the addition is the same as doing the brackets.
if you have 2+2^(2*4), doing the mutiplication is the same as doing the brackets....

c
The order is brackets, exponentiation, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction.
The link doesn't mention exponents, but trust me, they come after brackets and before multiplication.
