Could have been a Braxton Hicks contraction, or you could be in early labor. When your contractions become closer together in somewhat regular intervals, you are probably in labor. They will also become more intense and painful. When you are induced, the contractions come very hard and long in the beginning rather than building up like normal labor contractions. I was induced, and had my first baby in 4 1/2 hours!! Good luck to you hun.

It sounds like your getting very close to welcoming a new little edition to your family. Congratulations. You won't have to wonder if it's time to go to the hospital. You'll definitely know. For one thing, your water will break. With my first daughter it was obvious, the water ran down my leg suddenly. With my second daughter I stepped out of the shower and had just finished drying off when I noticed a dampness between my thighs. I pretty much knew I hadn't missed anything when I dried off. So I called my doctor and they had me come in and they checked the fluid then sent me to the hospital. With the second one I didn't start into labor for about 6 or so hours. When they mentioned inducing me, that did it! I went into labor and had her in rapid order! As for the pain, there's no need for it. An epidural fixes everything. You have to take the pain up to 5 centimeters I think before they will give you an epidural. They don't want to stop the labor. I highly recommend this. Natural is for the birds! Enjoy your new baby and best wishes to you!

That's so GREAT - I know so many people who have had miscarriages and gone on to have a healthy baby - congratulations. I don't think I ever had an ultrasound at 12 weeks - because your baby seems big to me for 12 weeks - I had one at 5 weeks before and baby isn't nearly as developed at that point as at 12 weeks - so much happens so fast! All the best to you!

If you are not in labor now then it was a braxton hicks contraction... but they can help progress to actual labor. You will have a good idea when it is time to have the baby! The contractions will be pretty consistant and your intuition will kick in. You don't feel anything when you are induced... just contractions that you'd feel wether you were induced or not. Good luck! Relax and enjoy these last few days!

I was the ame exact way. I was so scared but eager to have my baby. You will feel your contractions good. I layed in bed of about a half hour with my contractions going on and off, then finally we started timing them and it was time to go the hospital. They will hook you up to a machine and they will be able to see how far your contractions are apart. I was in labor for about 24 hours at the hospital. The contractions were the worst for me to feel. They hurt so bad. I had them drug me up. I know one of the drugs as ephideral, and they shoot that right up your spine, but after, you cannot feel a thing. To tell you the truth, I could'nt even feel my contractions or feel my baby come out of me. They kept telling me to push when I felt a contraction, but I could not feel a thing. It was pretty crazy, but so releving, considrering I am only 16 years old. But Good Luck. Make sure you ask for ephideral.

The doctor will decide if you need to be induced if your blood pressure spikes.. by now you should be seeing him weekly... most likely though.. things will go normally and you will not be induced. I was induced, so can't tell you about natural labour. When they induce you usually they put gel on your cervix by sticking their hand into you. If that doesn't work, they hook you up to a drip. As for the pain... it is bad.. but it's like climbing a really steep hil. Your legs hurt, you are out of breath, you are sweating and once you get to the top and see the view... you don't hurt anymore and you would do it agian... think of that times a million. You will do fine. I can't wait. I am only 21 weeks. Congrads!

First:
"When researchers in the late 1980s followed a group of healthy, white women with regular menstrual cycles, they discovered that pregnancy in first-time mothers averaged eight days longer than this, or forty-one weeks plus one day (2)."

Second:
"The Food and Drug Administration and the Physician’s Desk Reference, the bible of information on drugs, recommend against elective inductions.31,35 The FDA “disallows” it; the PDR says, “Since the available data are inadequate to evaluate the benefits-to-risks considerations, Pitocin [the trade name for oxytocin] is not indicated for elective induction of labor.”"

So. Hang in there!

this is my first child and I'm 38 weeks and 2 days myself I was and still am getting a lot of back pain and to find outs its because of how he is laying you moved around and sat down which encouraged your baby to move and it may also be early labor or you may be stuck with back labor. How ever no matter how much I seem to move around my back still kills me so I may be stuck with back labor I already know that I'm in early labor but I was having back pain before just not this bad. I also have curvature of the spine in my lower back which is where the pain is so that could be it for me to.
