My 12 month old son now purses his lips and turns his head when I try to feed him anything but even when I give him finger foods he barely eats, mostly plays. He's still breast feeding but I'm concerned about his iron stores. He's not eating solids really. Anyone had a baby become anemic? What should I watch out for? Any advice on how to get him to eat?? Thanks.

breast milk is the Best for babies, from my 1st son, i experience, there will be times when babies at ur son's age become 'refuse' to eat solid food. don't worry, they will get enough from the milk he's taking.try to give him new food, to attract him to eat

Ok the other two answers dealt with the feeding side. So heres you answer to checking for iron levela and anaemia.
Pull down the bottom eyelid and if the membrane is very pale, the child is anaemic and needs iron supplements. Simple and accurate.

At this age both my girls stopped eating as much as they did before. One breastfed, one formula fed so I doubt very much it has to do with how he gets his milk. My pediatrician told me it's normal for a one year old to slack on his food around 1 year.
Offer him lots of fruits and veggies and try to make it fun. He's only going to eat as much as his body needs. As long as you are offering lots of healthy foods he'll get the right nutrients.

He is old enough to have cows milk, but if you dont' want to wean him than don't. Doctors reccommend a minimum of 1 year of breatmilk.
