I've heard that there are a lot of advances in IUDs, I haven't had any kids yet but I want to not be on birth control anymore. I am tired of the side effects and have tried several brands without any luck. Is there anyone out there who is or has been on an IUD prior to having children? I'm open to any comments or suggestions. Thanks!

With some of them yes. The FDA within the past year approved one type, the ParaGuard, which is the only non-hormonal one approved for use in the USA. There is also the Minera, which is hormonally based, therefore it can have some of te same side effects as the birth control that you are trying to avoid. Just check with your doctor.

Just a word of advice. Don't rely too much on what You are told by the people who use Answers. Ask a paid professional medical practitioner for information. Otherwise You could find Yourself being told what to do by someone who has Their own personal agenda.

I don't think that birth control is generally needed.

Consider:

1. IUD's can at times have an abortive result instead of a preventative one, just like some birth control pills.

2. If you don't have sex before marriage (which is advisable), you don't need it.

3. Within marriage, just practice some sensible and practical timing, and have your husband exercise a bit of self-control.

P.S. In answer to the guy below, the doctors are pushing the agenda of the drug companies, device manufacturers and the establishment in general.
