Excellent question and I so totally agree with you. As a matter of fact, I had a question similar to this, this week and only got 4 answers. Seems most people are on the side of the minorities and illegals (which I might add are increasing daily).
It's just that phrase Politically Correct. I have grown to hate the termonology. I get tired of having to apologize for wearing a cross, and I'm a devout Christian, or to keep a Roasery hanging from my rear view mirror, and I also refused to say Happy Holidays and Holiday Tree. Christmas BELONGS TO AMERICA AND I DON'T CARE WHO DOESN'T LIKE IT...THAT's OUR RIGHT! (sorry, didn't mean to yell..I'm just venting) If you've ever noticed, there isn't one single person that tries to change the Jewish holidays. It automatically turns to Anti-semetic.
I'm thinking when people coming over on the boat, such as my grandparents did (LEGALLY) and back in the early 1800's, from Rome, my mother had described to me when they got off the boat and hit shore, they immediately and literally kissed the ground.
Now people come over here making demands, thanks to the activist groups like the ACLU who has not done a decent thing for AMERICANS in decades. Instead these minorities are pushing around the citizens and I've just about had enough. I cannot go into a gas station where there may be an American working anymore...and I was out of work and couldn't even get a job in a gas station...I spent 15 + years in retail and in RM and I applied for a managers positon and this lousy dollar store told me I didn't qualify; and I had even gone back to college and got a degree. When I go back to that dollar store a time later....they've hired someone who barely cracks the English language. So tired of being PC...You bet I'm tired of it and we have the minority special interest groups to thank.
I want to drive down the street and see the nativity scene back in front of the fire department where it used to be up until 4 years ago, because Jesus Christ came BEFORE Santa Clause.

I think a lot of PC is BS! It seems we Liberals always get "blamed" for it, but I think that a lot of it has gone way too far---and I'm one of the most liberal Liberals you can find!!!
Why can't I say "mentally retarded"? It conveys what I want others to know. If I say "The boy with Down Syndrome is_____blah blah blah ("appropriate PC"), how will anyone know that I mean his mental processes are not up to "average". (Which, in this country isn't very high; ooops, there's the Liberal again...)
If I want a Christmas tree, why must I call it a "Holiday Tree"??? (Which, of course, I won't!! It's a Christmas Tree, darn it!)
On the other hand, I know that "articulate" is Whitespeak for "doesn't sound like a N-----", and so I am offended by Biden's and Bush's remarks about Sen. Obama.
Oh, and your neighbor....do you think that someone "telling him to do it" would make him do it??
Why does everyone get labeled in your posts? Gay, Jewish, Liberal???? Let's see some of that luv, Lovely.

The truth is for years I've know non-christians who celebrate Christmas every year with the same enthusiasm as Christians. Me being one of them. The problem with recent couple of years has been Fox New Channel, they deemed everything a War on Christmas and Christianity. What people forget when you attack someone, they will defend and attack back. Pretty soon what was yearly traditions absent of religious aspects now was highlighted with religion and everyone felt left out. The tragedy not is that we can't accommodate for everyone religion but the even greater tragedy that neighbors and friends who enjoyed Christmas felt those traditions breaking away.

yes, in some circumstances...probably
but... I look at it like this... it's my right to say something offensive, and it's their right to be offended... in the end... my freedoms weren't curtailed... I still said it... and he was offended and he probably let me know about it... and that was just him expressing his freedom of speech...
as long as people don't legislate PC... it's a person's right to be PC or not be PC if they want to be...
I don't exactly "like" offending people, but if it happens, oh well...
I think people are too easily offended... but at the same time... people are also "too easily offended" by others being "easily offended"...
who cares if the person is offended... that's life... you can't make everyone happy and it's always been that way... they just call it "PC" now... it may have been "manners" before... and granted they aren't exactly the same thing... but share many similarities...

Yes. In most cases I find that the people who are offended are usually motivated by at least one of two things, money and/ or publicity. Rarely, do hear about someone who just says what they think and keeps going. Now-a-days, they have to spout their mouth off in front of a camera or contact a lawyer. If they would put their time and energy into thinking about what makes this country great instead of trying to force their beliefs on everyone or concentrating on what makes this country bad, they would be a lot happier and the country would not as polarized as it is now. Well everybody would be happier except for the lawyers and media.

Yes, we have become too easily offended as a society, and we really need to simply take things in the spirit they are intended(Merry Christmas is a good example) and quit looking for things to be offended by. and before anyone asks, "How would you feel if...", however I felt, I would keep it to myself and not cry about it. The world could use to try that once or twice.

People are getting upset over nothing. Using the word black is offensive, calling someone brown is offensive. People are getting to sensitive because of PC running amok. This is bad and it has shown the damage it has caused our society.

I would agree. We are not taught to respect opinions and values different than our own. Because you believe X and I believe Y is true, does not take away from me. It does not make my belief less valid. We waste alot of time trying to convince other people that our beliefs are superior to theirs.
For example, (since you used religion as an example) I believe God has many names and faces. Only we limit him with our dogma.
I like the question--food for thought.

Whenever some people are successful in a sport, or do well in something, they sometimes take time to thank God. Is that offensive? What about when a person loses their competition. Could they then put the blame on God? Would that be offensive? Funny, huh?

Oh yea... let's go back to the days of 'rule of thumb'... what a great idea... Rule of thumb came from an old USA law that said it was legal to beat your wife as long as the stick was no bigger round than your thumb.
Teaching ppl to be sensitive to others is ALWAYS a good thing.
What most are unaware of and have not researched but prefer to spout off about, is PC didn't just pop up out of the blue. PC was a direct result of many many psychological studies examining the effects of derogatory statements on youth's self esteem. IE, 'u run like a girl', 'that is so gay', etc....
Try this sometime (I've tested this many times): while talking to a white male, say, "Geez that is SO MALE of you." Then sit back and watch how insanely fast he will get upset and be in ATTACK mode. They can dish it out but not take it...
