Im going to school to be a teacher, but I'm just wondering how you become that "cool" high school teacher. I hear kids, and even myself say "that teacher was so cool." What are some ways/qualities to be this.....

I was the "cool teacher" when I taught high school (5 years). It is VERY simple... always treat your students as if they are very special unique human beings with their own brains and they will love you. Teachers who punish the whole class for the mistakes of the few and teachers who treat students as if they are idiots are never respected. I always tried to make every day fun and enjoyable and to this day my students email me and visit when they are in town. You will find that you meet the most amazing humans as a teacher! Good luck and thank you for going into such a noble profession.

Be yourself. Anything else is artificial. If you're cool, you're cool. If not, you'll probably not ever be cool.

The preceding does NOT imply that you will not be a very good teacher if you are not "cool." In my opinion, you may even be a better teacher.

A "cool" teacher is one who doesn't put on an act or pretend to be someone they are not. Cool = Honest. (even a nerd teacher can be cool)

Teach the same material in a different way then the other teachers are doing, and make it fun! I've had math teachers that made math fun and interesting...if math can be made fun...anything can.

It seems it would be more important to be a great teacher rather than a "cool" teacher. You sound immature. Being a teacher isn't about being "cool".

Learn to relate to your students as fellow humans, don't "talk down" to them or have a superior attitude towards them. Be careful though, this is a fine line to walk, try to be *too* cool and you might end up losing respect.

regard your students as if they were the coolest kids of your city. admire every single thing they do. appreciation from their teachers is something so badly needed from them. even if your class sucks, they will still regard you as a great teacher.
