I love to record my own songs on the computer and I want to give my voice that neat effect so obvious in commercial tracks. Is there any free software out there that more or less fits that purpose. I have downloaded some voice editing programs but all they do is let you alter pitch and add or remove echo. What feature is used to enhance one's voice? Is it a combination of some other simple ones?

Most industries use a pitch corretion tool by a company called Antares which is entitled Autotune. Also, the enhancing of voices depends also on production techniques, which can run the gamut from convoluted effects and equalization to mere microphone choice.

I'll listen to people who have their voices altered but they'll never be my favorite artists because you can tell most of the time People are shallow about most of everything and it is unfortunate that looks is what gets you to the top because some of the best people aren't considered 'hot' or 'sexy' And yes; if their voice is altered they'd suck live because you can't alter someones voice as their talking (if you could it would be outrageously expensive)

the music industry is using pro tools if looking for a software.but usually singers have their own signal processors to do their job.what you really need is a good delay effect and a very good compressor.
