Should we stop wasting our time in trying to find a meaning to life? The bad things that can happen to a person in her lifetime is enormous & varied & we have no control of it. Why analyse life at all? Instead ,on the days when you have met life's challenges just be grateful that it wasn't worse.

Don't know, nor do I know who knows what it is. Life is just our idea of what it is. You have come here with certain inherited hardware and you get your software over a periodof time which gives you a name, makes you aware of yourself, develop your likings and dislikings, interact with people in your unique way though with certain established pattern, get your label as crazy or cool depending upon your conformity or confrontation on different issues, certain virus wreck your system beyond repair that you need to format or shut down. We are basically prisoners of the ideas put into our brain. What is an individual unless he is considered one by the society around him/her. Read about feral children who behave more like dogs/wolves just because they were raised by dogs/woves. This grand concept of the place of human on earth looses its power once we realise we are no more than one of the primates and we are different from them just because of we live in a society. Have you heard the phrase that man is a social animal? What pains us is only a relative concept, so is pleasure. Pleasure and pain are no more than our response to external stimuli and if our idea conforms with our behaviour, it pleasure, else pain. How can I enjoy my my chicken burger where people hate animal meat? Why dolphins are not a delicacy? Why adultery is not the order of the day, though no otheranimal could have produced better offspring and survived if it is monogamous like us? Nothing is inherently good or bad - it is we who looking at it with our own or common perspectives, that give it a name or call it a norm. Maybe, the theory of relativity applies in social relations too. As we can not adapt ourselves quickly to every change we see, we can't but act as we are made to think and act. Or do we have any other options? Improvise if you can, but do not let the whiplashes bother you much. You may not increase your pleasure much by adopting a broader perspective, but you can definitely reduce your pain by that. Anyway, I don't know what life is, but my kids are waiting for me, my wife is terrible, the girl nextdoor is tempting, how about couple of beers tonight, who punched Federer on his nose, my boss is a zombie he never feels a thing, and so on. I am born with some, learned other, reasoned a bit, created my own heaven or hell or mostly an inbetween, it is ok with me. You don't know you have your own thing but you rubbed some of it onto us. That is what we all do, think and act as we are, and what we are is what our life. okay, I can not go on. Good luck.

You and I think alike. I have asked the same question, and here is what I got for the Answer.

There is no answer.

Thats the answer.

People want to make life meaning full, they want to make it worth something, they have the hope that in the ned they will meet greater and better things. And then they believe some will not.

But thats the question is their good and evil, is their a god, is their a greater power, or are we the ofspring of creatures living on a large rock in a huge area of limbo?

Will we ever find the answers? Will we ever discover what life for us is? Are we the actual descendants to Adam and Eve, or are we just things that luckly happened by chance?

Were we meant to evolve, or were we suppose to be stupid just like every other thing out there in space that could possibly be forming? Are there more intelegent creatures like us? Are we the only ones?

I guess it all comes down to what you believe in, do you believe that we are here for a reason, or are we here because of a considance. Everyone will have different ideas and opinions, but the truth will be told when we die and go to another deminsion, or we just become what is known simply (but yet hard to understand) as, "Nothing?"

So this is not an answer it is a statement, or rather, it is a question asking you to answer your own question by what you believe, and then stay with that theory until it's truley time to figure out the BIGGEST question in the world.

I used to think so. I thought that we were all here as some cosmic joke and that we were nothing but pawns in some gigantic chess game, thrown at each other to die meaninglessly but not to worry there will be more in the next batch.

However I have changed my thinking on this subject. We are the ones who are the ones who ruin our lives (I'm not getting religious here if that is what you are thinking). The problem is that there is too many of us in too small an area. We are all effecting each other in large and small ways via the small world effect where you but 6 steps away from any person on the planet. This means that if someone who you don't know does something 'bad' to someone else then it is only a maximum of 6 steps till that effect reaches you.

We should never stop trying to find a meaning in life since it is one of the few things that keeps us going through the toughest time of our lifes, that there is something or someone that needs you to be right where you are, in the middle of it. Finding a way out and bringing them with you.

I hope you understand me and that this helps.

I think life is one big GOOD Joke. If it seems bad now, you've just got to a wait a while for the punch line.

The meaning of life is to LIVE, that's it. If you can live a positive life, so much better. And often we don't have control - that's part of the challenge. Life is one challenge after another. If you meet those challenges and live to the next day, you've succeeded - in living life. Find meaning in what (positive things) you learn from the challenges.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Problem is, when I hear about a man that continously stun guns his 8 month old baby, or decapitates his 4 year old daughter, I lose sleep. I cry. I ponder and I worry. I silently curse and I hate all mankind for a time. I wonder why we're here at all. I guess I am a control freak of sorts, because the fact that I can't prevent such a thing and can't solve it and can't explain it or justify it, well, that just doesn't sit well with me. So don't worry, right? Be happy. If it were only that simple. Good question, though.

In what ever direction we go, there is no end.
Understanding is important so that we just don't go along the wind.
There are both good and bad in life. But we should overcome the bad times and need understanding to pass these.
We do have control on many things pertaining to our life like good habits, maintaining good health, enjoying good things etc. These do have control.

Left without control, it may be a fuss.

Understand the mind, its manipulations, calm it down. That needs lot of efforts and control without which there is no end to the wants or deeds.

There we need analysis and control.

Will we ever really know the answer?

Instead of trying to find some grand, definitive meaning to life for the human race, people ought to make their own personal lives meaningful - i.e. live life to the fullest when possible, enjoy themselves, help others, pursue passions, etc. I don't always believe in the "it could have been worse" mentaility because people may settle for less when they shouldn't have to - instead just think positively, and see things for what they are but not with the though "eh it could've been worse" because it *always* can been worse.

f#$% that first answer. I'm sorry but you're question is the exact reason i hate dr. phil. anylizing people is completely pointless. everyone is weird, crazy, cool, creative, depressed, obsessed, confused, happy, angry, informed and confused in varying degrees all day, every day. all this figuring people out stuff is stupid because the only thing you're going to come up with is stereotypical cliche advise that's not going to just work for everyone. everyone is messed up and when you put two people together, it just multiplies. the meaning of life...there's not one, you're absolutely right, no control....just roll with the punches, if something bad happened, it happened for a reason, and it's something that probably could have happened at any time prior to when it did, so be glad it took as long as it did for it to happen. when good things happen though...ahhh...can't beat it, but then it just makes things that are bad seem worse. i could definitely type until the chair i'm sitting in deteriorates on this subject but i'm done.

you don't analyse life sweety! life analizes you.and bad things happens to every living organism on this planet ,it's just not the human beings u see!(e.g when a dog is kicked out of a house thats a bad thing happened to him n he has no control n also he cannot complain about it)so the thing is we keep complaining only b-cuz we can .So next time when you look around sure you will find some worst - kicking things happening to every body and some of them cannot even say that -"IS LIFE ONE BIG BAD JOKE?"

I can't say that life is one big bad joke but i think life is not always same, sometime it is good and sometime its bad. So... we can't say life is a bad joke.Actually it depends on our luck,if there is happiness in our luck then nobody can stop it.Life is mixed up with both HAPPY & SORROW.Just try to be happy yourself then life will seem to u as a PRECIOUS THING. Life is everything. If there was no life then there would be no ppl, no happiness,no sorrow.
LIFE is beautiful if u will make it beautiful for u coz u r also beautiful.
