Its just that I fear we are being hypocritical by holding the values of "equality, freedom, justice, and democracy" while living in a world where there is no democracy or rights across the board on a global level. I just can't help but think about the world as a feudal kingdom of one haver-of-all and then the overwhelming majority being people who have nothing...this being dependent entirely on WHERE a person is born. Does the fact that we are sitting at the top with everything while millions die with nothing bother anyone else? Or am I just being ungrateful?

I completely agree, but you have to think about what American history consists of...like stealing land from the Indians and disguising it as a thankful dinner...those Indians were not even giving us their land by choice... and selling slaves for physical in differences....its sad, but our history is a lot of hate

Before America, there existed no Republics. Rome was long gone. Monarchies controlled the world. Would you have the Clintons or the Kennedys be our Royal Family? Or would you allow the citizens to elect their representatives? America is the only beacon that still puts value on elections. Does Iran have an election? Did Iraq? Does China? Where is your value on elections? America is not perfect and a democracy is unfit for our millions of opinions, but we are free above anyone on earth. What freedom does a suicide bomber have after the bombs are armed? Would you rather be recruited to USC or to be a suicide bomber? America promotes elections! Those that reject it are the monarchies that would keep the world under their oppression! To say on one hand America should not be world police and then to say on the other that we should help those in need throughout the world is hypocrisy!

It is in many instances less difficult for a character simply to invite any one else approximately how they believe or what they feel approximately Jehovah's Witnesses. How does circumstance of birth make Americans hypocrites? Do you have a better system in mind? Most of countries in Europe and South America are democracies. Most countries in Africa have had the opportunity to be democracies. The most feudal areas are parts of Asia, especially China.
You should be grateful for what you have and attempt to aid others when the opportunity presents itself.
I disagree with your assessment that millions are dying.

This is the way the world works. You can try to justify it, feel guilty for it, or change it. It doesn't matter. It is what it is. We want what's best for us. We should take care of our own first. Then, with a percentage of our surplus, help others.

The down side being the con artists. How do you really know who needs help, and who just manipulating the system? It's a sad-but-true state of affairs. Don't worry, it'll work itself out.

you are all products of today's dumbed down left wing controlled public educational system.

america is not preventing anyone from living as we do or having what we have. in fact, america has spent billions giving aid to third world countries and what happens is the corrupt leaders of those countries squander it for themselves while the citizens go hungry. yet everyone wants to point the finger at america for their problems.

you know the saying "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink". there's only so much america can do to help other countries. but if they don't take advantage of it, that's their fault.

and yes you are being ungrateful. you live in a nation where you have unlimited food, water, electricity, cars, computers, phones, and all other knick knacks you enjoy everyday because men worked hard and struggled to obtain them. it's easy to take things for granted when you are a spoiled brat, and yes you are one. let's see you go a week without electricity, water, food, and etc.

On the one hand, we are hypocrites, mostly because of people like River Girl, whom I bet hasn't ever lived in Africa (unless as a little girl in Apartheid South Africa), on the other hand there is nothing more pathetic than your played out 1st World Guilt.

The government and the corporately controlled media like to put out a lot of hype geared to making people afraid to leave the country, partly because they fear the consequences of every baby boomer who can't afford to live off of their social security and along with their children, many of whom lost dot.com or consultancy jobs to outsourcing, leaving the country to spend their social security checks elsewhere and renegue on their student loans.

The poverty in other countries, along with our prosperity, is essentially an illusion, since in most developing countries 99% of peoples' incomes are unreported! The lack of freedom in other countries is a result of a lack of patriotism and/or a colonial mentality that makes the ambitious believe in coming to America rather than fighting for their rights.

Americans should never be ashamed of their birthright, but should make sure to elect leaders put AMERICAN VALUES first, and AMERICAN INTERESTS second. Read some foreign based news online, and try living abroad someday. It will give you a better perspective and make you less susceptible to right and left wing propaganda.

You are; if we tried to "give" the rights we enjoy to other countries, we would be criticized for "nation building", and just because some don't have as many as we do, that doesn't make it our fault. Countries have to come to realization and actualization of their rights on their own.
