I'm an US born American citizen who was raised and lives in Latin America, but when I travel to the US, I notice people are always busy and act very cold. What could be the reason for that?

"Cold" is simply "professional" ... we don't hug and kiss every stranger we meet here in the USA ...

It is the way of all big cities. You are a starnger in a crowded place. It is not just indigenous to the USA. you eill find similar in London paris, brussels and lots of other places.

Latin America is very laid back by comparison and often a welcoming breeze to visit. Don't worry about the overworked overstressed snubby City people, they are all dying of pollution and fast food heart attacks. They ain't long for the world anyway.

It could be that Americans are more informed than other people?

We realize that life is extremely fragile and there are a lot of things that can disrupt our normal way of life.
Those thing happen to Americans all the time and they disrupt our way of life. From not only inside the country, but also from
people all over the world complaining about our democratic way of life and threatening our economy. Yeah. That will put people a little on edge.

Americans are trying to solve the worlds problems, that is why they are so busy. Not only do they have to solve their own, they have to solve everybody elses.

Most people here have become work-aholics. Some because they need to be, and others because they just want to have every new contraption that comes out. They rarely have any time to talk to their own children, so I'm not surprised that they are too busy to socialize with strangers.

It's wrong, and I believe that we should get back to basics. Both parents in a two-parent home shouldn't need to work full-time--much less overtime. I'm fairly sure that they are paying for some things that they really don't need or use.

In this current society, most of us are under a lot of stress. A lot of people are in jobs that they don't like but that they need to have in order to make money. Others are dealing with personal issues, such as marriage problems. I think that the current times are just very stressful. A lot of people are in situations where they are expected to succeed (college, career, etc.), but they are not sure if they can. Our country has become more and more based on making money, and people have started to be obsessed with it.

One because there's so many people that it would be impossible to talk to them all. People may also get the wrong impression in a big city. There just going from point A to B.

Come on over to the Mississippi delta...we're warm year round.
Actually, the south does have a reputation of being friendly and courteous....or at least we'd like to think we do....know some will disagree. Friendly people all over the US. You just have to find them.

I live in Florida, so they are probably "cold" from the air. On the other hand, I moved down here to get away from the "Grumpy" North!!

We learn at an early age not to get involved.
"Don't talk to strangers" is ingrained in us (which isn't bad).
The problem is we never learn as adults to make our own decisions about people. We're so used to ignoring others that we don't give them a chance.
Try smiling at them. Some of them will smile back.
