One night stands are a bit different from making love to someone for the first time. So, let's consider that you had the one night stand and now can't look at the other person without feeling weird. Well, could be that you feel exposed and embarrassed. Could be that you've fallen in love. Could be that the sexual encounter wasn't as hot as you'd thought it would be, or could be that it was even better than you'd imagined. Or maybe you/he were a virgin and there's some strange feeling of committment now. Who knows? If you enjoyed yourself, tell your person that you had a nice time and ask where they'd like to see it all go. If you had a lousey time, then, thank the person and tell them that they're nice, etc., but that you don't want to pursue anything right now. And if YOU want to pursue but they don't, then walk away with whatever dignity you can muster up and move on.
