Why is it that violence is okay but cursing isn't?

In the United States, they make many extremely violent video games. But no one can say "Sh*t" or "F*ck" on cable television, why is that?

yes they make violent video games... but they come with a rating.. that let you KNOW there is violence in it.

and you CAN say shlt and *** on cable TV, you CANT say it on basic tv.
and again when there is going to be cursing there is going to be a rating....
