brewbeer, THANK YOU! that is what I am talking about, as for those of you who who say I am being close minded, I am merely speaking from my own experience, I guess I should have altered my question, sorry if I got your underwear in a twist.

realist and the dude, I am fully aware of the definition of liberal, however many claim to be liberal yet they are quite close-minded. In other words, and this goes out to some of you on here, they are HYPOCRITS! Not sure if that is the exact spelling, but it will do. I guess some people did not get what I was saying.

Close minded to bigotry, xenophobia, hate and intolerance? Yep. When the righties stop acting like hysterical nuns and realize the world is here on our doorstep, and it isn't going to be Leave it to Beaver anymore, we can talk.

conservatives are just as close minded. When there was all the hooplaa about reforming social security president Bush said he was open to any suggestions as long as they involved private investment accounts (I'm not saying I'm against these by the way). However, the problem that everyone had with Bush's proposal was the private accounts, so what's not close minded about that. Or how about, despite his extremely low approval rating, Bush deciding to send more troops to Iraq despite a recently elected democratic congress. Republicans are just as close minded, and now conservatives are finally starting to feel what the democrats have for the past 6 years. What goes around comes around.

It doesn't matter if you're a liberal or conservative. People are just close-minded. It's always an us-vs-them mentality.

There are not very many people, again liberals or conservatives, willing to accept that their belief is not always right.

The definition of the word "Liberal" does not have the same meaning as (political) liberals, not in modern politics.

Because we actually put personal thought into our beliefs. We do not re-lie on the church or the NRA or Big Business or other special interests groups to tell us what our thoughts and beliefs should be. As for close minded I think that you have the to parties mixed up.......evolution, global warming, religion, green energy, world peace, a woman's choice, gay marriage, some gun control laws, government spending..........I believe that your Republican party is awfully "CLOSED MINDED" on these particular beliefs.

The Dude,
That was the most perfect answer, I was trying to make the same point but you did it in like 15 words........nice

As a liberal, I am open minded. I understand that others have different thoughts and beliefs, and if they are not being insulting, I am more than happy to discuss our differences with them.

On Y!A I get tired of being called names, though, and sometimes snap back....Sorry, I'm human.

If the Tea social gathering is so enamored of small government, why do its elected officers bypass hog-wild for regulations on abortion as quickly as they get elected? and then vote for subsidies for large oil? that's consistent with probability no longer loose business enterprise. that is merely extra socialism for the wealthy.

We think we have truth on our side. Same reason conservatives are so closed minded. I try to consider the other side, and am always willing to call a fellow liberal out on their BS tho.

The way you ask these questions it so rude and arrogant. This is why they react to you as if you are a pompous ***. The reason why you think these liberals are closed minded is that they are closed minded to your personality.

Had you a dictionary, you would learn that "liberal" is the exact opposite of your definition.

so... you know most liberals?

I would be willing to bet, you know few... and don't care to know any... and you're basing your ideas on those few...

I know quite a few... some are closed minded on some issues... but overall, far more open minded than most people...

I'm not sure anyone is open minded on everything... I'm positive you're not...
