I have a 95 Isuzu Rodeo... Here lately it has been making a shrieking sound when taking off in first gear (it is a 5 speed.) And I noticed a smell coming through the vents.... And so far it hasn't done it for my husband.. ( that is usually how it works lol ) The sound is kinda like a belt, but more grinding to it... Other than that it runs fine... At first it did it only when I was turning, so I thought it may be the power steering, but now like I said it only does when taking off in 1rst... I have checked all fluids and everything is just fine...

Also, now when I drive it, whether its cold or warm outside, there is thick white smoke coming from the exhaust.... It does it the entire time I am driving... I mean like cover the car in the drive through behind me kinda think... and the smell coming through the vents is still there... My hubby said to check the coolant... (and he is car savvy, but works 100 hrs a week, so don't have time to look..)

When I checked it before it all seemed fine.. Greenish in color and filled up... I will check it again tomarrow, but could these to problems be connected... the first started a weeks ago, and the latter started 3 days ago... What all could it possibly be, and is it expensive to fix???

The reason I have a Isuzu is because my new Dodge was totalled (not my fault) and it was for sale at a great price from a private seller, and it was what we could afford.... So to those who have rude comments about foreign cars.. please keep them to yourself...

It's not like I NEED it to get by... We do have a 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, but I love my little rodeo... And my hubby works 5AM to 9PM Mon-Sat. For oilfield companies.. And right now he doesn't have much time.... Hear lately he has been going in on Sunday to because they are trying to get locations done... Sorry that some of you don't understand that....

Seems like your Rodeo has quite a few problems. The white smoke is most likely coolant leaking into one or more of your cylinders either because of a worn out cylinder head gasket or a cracked cylinder wall. The squealing sounds could be your clutch slipping and the smell could be the clutch matierial burning because it is on its way to failure and there is not enough pressure to keep the clutch fully engaged. Or the smell could be your belt slipping and the rubber is burning and that is the smell. You could look into replacing the belt tensionor as it may be worn out and cannot keep your belt tight, or one of your accessories like you power steering pump or alternator is dragging really bad and the belt just slips over the pulley causeing squealing and rubber burning smell. ALSOOOO.... if your white smoke smells kind of like celery, if you don't know what celery smells like then go get some and smell it, and that would be coolant burning and your best bet is to find a way to get rid of your Rodeo or plan on spending several thousand dollars refurbishing/replaceing your engine and replacing the clutch.

I believe the thick white smoke means that your engine oil is burning ( I might be wrong). The smell could be a misfire. I would check the timing belt/chain. check and change spark plugs if needed. As for the shrieking sound, you should probably change or tighten the drive belts.

It sounds like you're in quite a bit in a pickle with your car. It sounds to me like it is a problem with the axles on the wheels. From the way you describe it, it only seems to happen when you are moving. I'm sorry I'm not more car savvy, but I've heard of situations like yours before.
