States must comply with the REAL ID ACT of 2005 by May 2008. If they do not, state driver's licenses will fall short of Real ID's standards and cannot be used to board an airplane or enter a federal building or open some bank accounts.

A national identity card heavily isn't issued in 2008! you have not got any concept what the authentic identity is. the authentic identity act merely contraptions policies, regulating how the states situation identity enjoying cards. some policies incorporate: protection good factors - all state issued identity enjoying cards could contain holograms and "tamper evidence" textile. A social protection extensive form or passport is had to coach citizenship. to boot a centralized database containing purely the information on your license would be created. No get right of entry to to the rest will get carry of. And no, your license won't expire in 2008.

No. I agree the government is only interested in more control, while leaving the rest of us open to abuse. For a while they insisted on having SS numbers on driver's liscense only to expose honest people to credit and identity thief. The government is only concerned about the government.

The excuse about needing more security is false. What is keeping terrorists from hijacking airplanes is the heros from flight 93, not the security at airports.

If you want to be more secure, be willing to die in the defence of a complete stranger. Now think if everyone around you would do the same for you?
