As a past high school and college cheerleader and current coach, I can tell you that tryouts are different everywhere!
I encourage the girls who come to me to learn their routines! A judge may ask you to start in the middle of a routine...and I have seen many girls cut from that point. So nail it when they ask you to.
As far as learning a routine by watching it...I haven't seen this much but, if you do just remember that you have to break the movements down in your head and try to remember them as best as you can. Focus on movements, Hi V's, Lo V's claps etc. If you have any cheer experience you will already know the basics and will be able to master these skills with ease.
I have yet to see a judge be harsh on someone who has only seen the cheer one time and make you do it! What they do expect is enthusiasm and a williness to learn.
So, to answer your question....
Know your routine
Be sharp in your movements. Make sure your positions are placed correctly.
Be loud...not shrill...but very vocal
Have attitude. Don't over do it, but "know you are the best"
Eye contact is key!
On try out day, your hair should be back in a pony tail and or off of your face. Make-up should be minimal and no jewelry. let the Judges know that you are a contender not a beauty pagent want to be.!
Best of luck to you in your endeavors!

Talk to the Cheerleading coach/advisor. Find out what the requirements will be. Get any paperwork you'll need to fill out and know your deadlines.
Talk to present Cheerleaders or previous Cheerleaders. They can be an excellent source for information and advice. Visit our Cheerleading forum and ask questions there. You'll find lots of good advice and encouragement from Cheerleaders and coaches. You can also share your experiences and help others.
Get in shape. If you're not already on a good workout program, start one. You'll need strength, stamina, and flexibility to make a good Cheerleader. Enroll in some gymnastics, tumbling, and dance classes, if at all possible. Cheerleading involves all of these to some extent.
Learn more. Ask questions, read books, watch videos, use the Internet. Never be afraid to say "I don't know" or "I don't understand", and "Can you show me?".
Practice and practice perfectly. The only way to improve your ability is through lots of practice. Practice your motions, your cheers, your jumps and don't forget to practice your facial expressions. Use a video camera to tape yourself, then watch it to catch any mistakes. Practice in front of a mirror or in front of other people. Strive to make your techniques perfect. Mentally visualize yourself executing everything perfectly. On the "big day"
you should be readymake sure to smile have fun and be LOUD.

There are dance schools around that also teach you how to do the tumbles and kicks that are required in cheerleading. You could go to class and learn how. The cheerleaders will say, now we are going to take two steps forward do a forward roll and upon standing up yell. they usually walk you through this in the tryouts. Do good warmups and practice every day. You want to be good and limber by the time May comes around. Be sure and eat right and get in your best shape. Good Luck

I know about the routine it cam be intimidating but just relax act like your with a bunch of friends and in the meantime to get ready work on your tumbling, dancing, and work on an original cheer for the team just in case and practice moves in front of a mirror to see how things look but trust me even if you cant nail the dance routine if you have great tumbling like backflips, standing tuck, whatever they will rate you high and have a greater chance to make the team so bone up on your skills and good luck remember to relax and stretch

They have grownup tumbling categories, and a few gyms have categories only for teenagers too. I took tumbling and the youngest individual in my magnificence was once 12. You may not fairly be out of location if you'll be able to discover the proper magnificence. But I agree, you fairly must paintings to your backward tumbling if you're going to have a danger. Most tuition squads wish you to have an entire.
