coordinate with philippine airlines for assistance with the travel of an unaccompanied minor. be sure that you have all the required papers from the department of social welfare and development(dswd) for minors travelling alone. you might need the consent of the legal guardian before they allow your niece to leave the country.

Not sure if Philippine Airlines does that but Singapore Airlines does. From the time an unaccompanied minor(UM) reaches the airport, the ground staff will be there to assist in her check-in and luggages. They will then bring her to the departure gate and she will be the first to board the aircraft. Usually if it is not a full flight, the UM will be allocated the whole row of seats to herself which the cabin crew has to keep an eye on in case some men try to chat up the UM. If it is a full load, normally the UM will be seated next to a women or of the same sex. The passport will be kept by the in-flight supervisor and any immigration and custom forms will be fill up by the staff.

Throughout the flight, the crew working in that zone will monitor her closely to see to her needs. After descent, she will be made to remain seated till the ground staff comes to retrieve the passport from the in-flight supervisor and bring her out to the arrival hall into the safety of the family. Please check with Philippines Airline on their procedures for UM and let them know that your niece needs is only 9 and needs assistance.

During reservation, it is a prerequisite to inform the airline or the travel agency that the child is unaccompanied minor. You will be guided on what to do. Anyway, first secure a Travel Clearance from DSWD (pls check other requirements at DSWD). Passport of both parents are required together with the letter of consent that the child will travel alone. Fill up the form of unaccompanied minor at the airline or at the travel agency wherein you will buy the ticket. Submit the form and pay $20/way for the documentation fee. During check in, i advise that you arrange for airport assistance to guide the child on how & where to go inside the airport or secure an airport pass (to be requested at the airport). During flight, she will be attended but not that so personalize. for further assistance, you can check my profile.

I think you can talk to the Philipine Airlines regarding your concern either at the airport when you check in or call them in advance. They will try to find a crew to help your niece, but you have to make sure the airline knows that there should be someone else assist your neice in the Hong Kong airport as well. Airline did provide this kind of service!!!

Before purchasing the ticket inform the airline that the minor is un accompanied but will be fetched by someone at the airport of destination. With accomplished required documents for minor travelers, the airline attendants will do their responsiblity from boarding to air flights to arrival at the destination and this ceases when the minor is property turned over to the identified fetcher. They have this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for minor travelers as embodied under flight regulations.

Most airlines will offer some assistance to minors if you let them know about it in advance. They are usually very helpful and responsible in that regard. However, check with immigrations rules about unaccompanied minors before putting her on board.

You need to contact the airline concerned. They will make proper provisions for a minor that young to travel alone. She will be safe. My 12-year daughter flew by herself and the airline staff were very nice and looked after her.m She will be safe.
