Humans are the only animal with the ability to reason.

The human brain uses logic and critical thinking and animals' brains are instinctive, that is the main difference.

As the others have said, it is the ability to critically think and assess. Reason separates man from animal. Here's a question: why was man bestowed with reason?

In addition to the ability to reason and think cirtically, humans also have a more distinct consciousness - the awareness of our existence, that leads us to form personalities and opinions.

I think it is our ability to reason and not continue to do the same thing expecting different results.

When you break it down...Humans have thumbs and animals don't.

If it wasn't for thumbs, humans would still be living in trees. We need thumbs to hit the space button on our computers.
