A friend and I are in the early stages of putting together a zombie movie. We've done some stuff in the past, just with camcorders and other super low budget techniques, but we want to make this movie for real. All we have right now is a rough outline and a list of friends who might be interested in acting in the film. Are there any goverment grants, or companies who supply funding for this sort of thing? And what would be the best way to get a company to sponsor the film? I'm estimating somewhere in the field of $5,000-$10,000 to make this movie.

Most independent producers make their first movies from maxing out their credit cards and borrowing money off friends and family to make a decent flick to enter into every film festival they can find and hope that it wins some awards and hopefully capture the eye of a a would be investor and major producer.

Saw got its start as an 8 minute short film that caught the eye of a producer attending a film festival.

Robert Rodriquez got his start by producing "El Mariachi" with $7,000 of money he saved by participating in a paid sleep study and again, it caught the eye of big money producers.

Get a job wher you answer the phones and then apply for a credit card telling them you make a lot of money. When they call to check it out answer the phone and say yes. Then you charge the film on your credit card(s). It worked for "Clerks".

I know that when Kevin Smith made Clerks, he got cash advances on a bunch of credit cards all at once. You could do that or you could get a loan, but both of those options are huge risks, so I'd only advise it as a last-ditch option. I just thought I'd throw it out there, though, in case.

'Waiting to Exhale' with Whitney Houston. Made me get rid of the character I was dating and had me paying for everything.
