I believe that one of the most important events to occur within the last century was the development of the flu vaccine, which initiated in 1945. Without this essential medical advance, it is likely that this illness could have wreaked more havoc on the global population, not unlike the tragedy of losing more than 30 million people during the 1918 pandemic. Even though the flu currently remains more of a threat to the young and elderly in current times, the invention of the vaccine and its successors continue tot influence the health of our most vulnerable people in society.

The invention of antibiotics and the polo vaccine!.
With out vaccine and antibiotic plus sulfur most of us would have died after birth Most children died before they were three years old. One presidents son died from a hurting his big toe on the tennis court. Because of an infection that today. Had he been given him penicillin.
. More soldiers died by infections than getting shot. Which includes the Civil War and WWI . It was just before WWII that there were enough antibiotics especially penicillin So our men/women could survive from most infections
. Without these drugs more r soldier's would have died instead of getting shot by a sniper or a suicide bomber.!
I truly believe if not antibiotics life as we know it today would be as it was children dying from the mumps and measles etc.
