My 2 week old baby is scratching up her face because her little nails are long and uneven. She was a month premature, and because her hands are so small, i can't find any scratch mits that will fit her. I tried to clip her nails with a baby nail clipper, but I accidentally pinched her finger and hurt her, I felt so bad that I'm not using them again. I'm afraid using a nail file will hurt her just as much. Any mom's have any suggestions?

Please use baby mittens for now. Nail clippers are never no good. It would be a good ideal to bite her nails. But you don't want to bite them to low down or they might get sore. Congratulations on your new baby girl.

I would probably just use socks, but I have heard that you can take your baby to her pediatrician and the doc or a nurse will trim the nails for you.
I imagine it would be a horrible experience pinching your baby, but you are just new to this. Don't worry! You will be able to use the clippers again.
Also - I got clippers at my shower in this little kit that has a magnifying glass attached to them so you can see a little better. Maybe you could look for a pair of clippers that has the magnifying glass too.
Good luck!

Put baby socks on her hands! Then pull her long sleeved shirt down over them. They sell preemie socks, I used them on one of my kids.

I nicked my first baby once too, just once. We all did it once! And I found it easier to trim my kids nails when they were asleep. Even if you only trim 2 nails today and 1 tomorrow, you're still trimming them.

It's okay sugar, relax. Now go get the socks.

she is not going to remember that pain. i know that as a mother you never want to hurt your child intentionally. But by the same token you have to take care of them. That includes grooming them...trimming their nails. The nails will only continue to grow and get worse. You had a baby, went through all of that...she NEEDS you to be her mother...now find that strength that got you through labor and trim your baby's nails. Wait until she is sleeping...hold onto each finger tightly and get it done! YOU ARE A MOM! DO IT ALREADY!

Use a small emery board. They make them for babies. My son was 2 months premature and I had the same problem!

safety first makes a baby sized emory board that works great. also put the cuffed socks on her, we had to do that with our daughter, and it worked great. hope your child grows out if it, our's is over a year and still scratches herself even right after i trim her nails.

Of all the answers posted baby socks are the best answers But i just wanted to tell you not to use band aids. Your baby could chew on her hands and choke on the band aids.

Look in the toy department for doll clothing. Something there like doll booties, doll socks, doll mittens should fit your daughter' hands. Also try the hospital--they should have something to fit her--after all they take care of a LOT of babies in all sizes. Just take care whatever you choose cannot come off easily and get sucked into her mouth.
