I am sure you will get an argument no matter which film you choose as her best.
Her first major film (one that she desperately wanted ) was the dramatization of the play "Bus Stop". It is sad that it stereotyped her as the dumb blond, because she did a good job.
I think, however, it was because it was not "stereotyped" Marilyn Monroe that I liked her in the last of her major films, "The Misfits". There was something special in her portrayal that showed that she had matured as an actress, and it was not a light musical comedy role.
But if you limit me to stereotyped Marilyn, ....For comedy--it's gotta be Billy Wilder's "Some Like It Hot" .

Marilyn's best movie is a toss up: "7 year itch" and "Some Like it Hot!"
Of course then there's Monkey Business with Cary Grant and a hoot for those days... then again the last unfinished movie would have been supperb with the nude scene in the pool.. the film stock still exists.

Some Like it Hot. I liked the dress she wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but did you see the dress she wore when she met up with Tony Curtis on the yacht? Absolutely gorgeous! Marilyn was one beautiful lady.

I liked her in "The River of No Return". It's not the greatest movie ever, but she was believable. She seemed to be sad in that movie. There were some scenes in which she was in the scene, but she really wasn't there.
