I was recently told I need more Ram for my pc but what about the processor? How do I know if I need a new processor too? How about the mother board? Is there a way to check on these without paying an arm and a leg?? Thanks.

I have Windows XP on my PC and it is 900mg AMD Athlon with 32 kb primary memory cache and 256 kb secondary memory cache. I play Disney's Toontown and it keeps freezing up and saying I need more virtuall memory.

do you just want a faster processor? If your machine is working fine and you don't just want to up the speed then the MB and processor should be fine.

Before you get new RAM, make sure what the max is for your MB. if you put more than the max you are wasting money because the machine won't see more than the max.

For instance, if you have 2 slots and the max is 1gb, you can't put 2 1gb chips in.....well you can but the computer will only recognize and use 1gb

If the majority of programs you want to run required a faster processor that what you have, then you gotta move up which basically would be probably more economical to buy another machine with a new motherboard and other new features.

Many still use their 486 cause they do not use the internet and it is sufficient for the programs that they are running.

RAM isn't important unless you are doing hardcore gaming. A 1gb Ram is plenty. The processor probably won't need an upgrade. If it's around 1.03Ghz, its fast enough.
