the midpoint in a series of numbers; half the data values are above the median, and half are below. For example, in the odd series 1, 4, 9, 12 and 33, 9 is the median. In the even series 1, 4, 10, 12, 33 and 88, 11 is the median (halfway between 9 and 12). Note, the median is not necessarily the same as the AVERAGE (or mean). But, first you must SORT your data in ascending or descending order. If you have a lot of data points it is helpful to use a graphing calculator like TI-83 and above.
