Adapter or bad motherboard.

Bad battery AND adapter is no power at all. Adapter is not your problem. You may have lost the charging circuit which can be part of your motherboard, or a snap-on daughter card on the motherboard with a cable to the internal battery connector . These are replaceable but requires considerable dis-assembly. (Mostly in Sony Vaios and Toshibas).

Another remote possibility is that you have some foreign junk on the battery connector inside the laptop. Check out the grooves and make sure nothing is embedded in the contact blades.
