And if so, what kind of dancing was it and how much does it cost?

I have taken ballet class all through my childhood and teens. I stopped when I went to college. In the 3 years I didn't dance, (combined with horrible cafeteria food, and not keeping a balenced diet and regular exersize) I put on almost 30 pounds.

I went back to ballet this summer and am continuing to dance. I take 1-2 classes a week, each lasting an hour and a half, and I have lost 15-20 pounds. I have found that most of my classes cost about 10 a session. Which is pretty reasonable. I pay at the sudio where I used to dance as a kid and teen, and now dance at, $5.00 a class, I bought 10 classes at $50.00.

I know ballet works a lot of calories (especially if you do everything your teacher tells you to... pull up, point harder, strech farther). But It isn't for everyone. Try soemthing fun! Do you like to watch Dancing with Stars? Try a Salsa class or Tango class. Like to watch, So You Think You Can Dance, try a hip-hop or jazz class. But the important part is to have fun. If you take a class that isn't fun, or do any workout that isn't fun, then it isn't benefitial.

If this is your first dance class don't jump into a class that is too hard. Be sure to strech too! Otherwise, the day after is going to be VERY painful, you also risk tearing a tendon or muscle.

Good Luck!

I took dance as a child and teenager and always stayed toned...now that I am a middle age woman, I have found that Jazzercise is a fun way to stay in shape! Keeps the weight off and can be low or high impact...the instructors will usually show you more than one way to do a step...these classes also include strength and flexibility training. Most cities have at least one class available a day, i pay 35 dollars a month. If this is not what you are looking for, try a dance studio...some offer classes for all age groups. All and all, dance is a great way to stay in shape!

Just dance!!! go out and dance, it is the best exercise ever and helps you loose weight. You do not have to pay for lessons, just go and dance, even at home, play some good music. You just do it for at least an hour and do it putting energy into dancing. Have fun and loose weight.

A hour non-stop dancing will burn you as much as 1,000 calories in a hour. But it depends on what type of dance that you do in Class. I have been attending regular dance classes at Fitness First. High burners are the Hip Hop Classes, Body Jam Classes, Latin Grooves and Retro Grooves.
