I totally agree with you. Phantom of the Opera is my all time favorite. The book is my favorite book as well. I just love Erik! Besides that one though, Les Miserables and Jekyll and Hyde have to be my next favorites. I also love Into the Woods, Wicked and RENT. But Phantom's my absolute favorite. It's just so beautiful! I just saw it last summer, and my heart stopped while watching it, I believed. So yeah, it's the greatest.

Wicked - full of laughs great score, gives a nice spin to The Wizard Of Oz, which is my fave movie when I was a kid.
Annie - still my favorite. I must have seen the play and movie a thousand times.
Les Miz - the best musical score. Just love the ensemble songs. Still couldn't believe how they mixed three/four different voices singing different lyrics in One Day More. It takes a really good composer to make it work.
Rent - love the songs. And I love the original cast.
Miss Saigon - I just love it. The helicopter scene is precious. Haha. How did they get it into the theatre? Don't tell me they built it inside? Hmmm. Love it because of the cast too. Jonathan Price is just hilarious as the Engineer. And Lea Salonga, when she first performed the role of Kim, she looked like a 13-year-old. Even though she's 17 years old then I think. One of the two shows that made me teary-eyed. (when Kim was left behind in Saigon and when she was singing The Sacred Bird and then she shot herself) The other is Wicked (the scene For Good and when Fiyero was taken by the guards).

I'd have to say that the BEST broadway show is...WICKED...It's new and about the witches of OZ and how they became friends. It so awsome and you can relate to the charecters. The songs are amazing. I even sang a few of them for auditions. I just loved the story and charecter. You will fall inlove with the story as soon as it begins!!

Since you named no time frame I would say The Ziegfeld Follies. It had the best entertainers in the world and it went on stage with a new format every year.
