When i had my first child, labor was a progressive, the contractions started out slow and worked there way up to being harsher and more frequent. I think this helps us to be able to handle the pain because it is gradual. Then, with my second child, I was induced with Pitocin. The contractions were strong and frequent from the beginning and I could not handle it. I got an epidural , where my first child, I did it all natural.
I am not trying to scare you, I am just being honest. everyone's body is different, but inducing labor does cause contractions to be stronger and they have to constantly monitor the baby at all times just to make sure he\she can handle the contractions.
However, inducing is done frequently, so I am sure you will be okay. I would really suggest getting pain mediaction, though. I personally found it unbearable. good luck. And it's all worth it when the baby comes!

I was induced a year ago in September and I am hoping this September to be induced again. I loved it! It was all planned, I didn't have to worry about not making it to the hospital on time like I did before I found out I was going to be induced, and the only bad part was when they broke my water. They couldn't get my bag to break so it took 3 times and it hurt. But after the cervadil to soften my cervix and the pitocin full strength I went from 2 cm, to 9 cm in 2 1/2 hours and I pushed for 35 minutes, with no pain meds and my son was born. The contractions are really hard and seem like they never stop coming but it is over a lot quicker than naturally. I had contractions for 2 months before they induced me and bed rest for 2 1/2 months, I can't wait to be induced again, at least I know what will happen. And no they where not braxton hicks contractions they stopped them 4 times.

I was induced because he was sitting on a nerve. Mine went very well. I went in at 6am by 7 they had started the pitocin. I was dilated to a 2 when I went in. I had a very good dr. She said what ever I wanted to give it to me. I felt some contractions but not to many at first. I got my epidural at 3pm and they were expecting me to start pushing around 11pm. Well around 5 i was feeling a little bit more and more often. The nurse said that she needed to slow down the pitocin cause it works better when it is going slow. Around 7pm i was feeling alot of the contractions so i called for for meds so they gave me some and that lasted for about 20min and i had to call again. I called the nurse back and forth so much that she decided to check me again early. At 8pm i was fully dilated and ready to push. They had to call the dr and gave me the final dose of meds that would last through pushing. The dr got there just before 9, I pushed from 9 to 935 and he was born.
I thought that it was very easy and not very painful. I have not experienced going into labor yet but I was there with a friend in labor and she was in alot more pain than I ever was.
If you have a good dr. everything should go well, and hopefully without alot of pain. Good luck and congrats.

It is more painful and the contractions are much more intense because of the oxytocin that they give you to induce the contractions. My first child I was induced for the same reasons as you, and the contractions started slowly. When they finally kicked in I was having contractions on top of one another and there was less than 30 seconds between contractions. I was extremely exhausted by it. My second child I went into labor naturally, yes it was still very painful, but nothing compared to my first. The contractions were more spread apart and not quite as intense. I would never choose to be induced again.

I was induced for one of mine...it isn't a lot different, but I do have a little advice. When I was induced, they used pitocin. My doctor had told me that they would use a little and then gradually increase the dosage until things had "really gotten going." Well...then he needed to go be with another woman who had come in and things got going (and fast). The nurse had increased the dosage a couple of times and came in to up it once more. At this point, I felt like one big contraction - so I said, "He said just until things got going and they are really going...." She said, "Well - we usually keep increasing it until the baby is born." I said, "I'm really not comfortable with that until I speak to my dr." She was very annoyed, but did call him in. He looked at my moniter strips and said I could quit the pitocin if that would give me more of a break between contractions. My baby was born 2 1/2 hours later. I am SO glad I asked her to call my doctor....as soon as they backed off a little, labor really wasn't that bad...well, it got a little better anyway. :) Good luck!!

I was induced with my first and second child. The pitocin does make the contractions harder but it will speed up the process. Plus there is always an epidural. The whole process of pregnancy, labor, and delivery was a wonderful experience. Plz dont let anyone scare you on here. Congrats!

It depends on your status at the time. If you are starting out from a good cervical standpoint (3cm or so, 50% or more effaced, baby engaged into pelvis) not as bad as those who come in and aren't dilated. The closer you are to going into labor on your own, the less of a difference you will notice. Just keep in mind that each delivery is different regardless of whether it is an induction or "natural". Good luck.

Well I was induced .. it was not all that bad. I went in the day before at 5pm and they hooked me up to all the monitors and watched me and the baby all night. Then bright and early the next morning 5 am they come in and gave me an enema and then stuck me for the IV to give the medicine to put me into labor.. I forget the name at the moment. Then I was able to try to walk around alittle. When the medicine kicked in.. well it makes your contractions alot harder. The doctor came in at about 11am and broke my water. I had a great nurse.. she gave me some demoral.. that worked about 30 mins. Then she came in and checked me.. I was at 2cm, she stretched me to 3cm and told the anaesthesiologist I was at 4cm so I got my epidural early. After the epi.. all was GREAT.. I was telling anyone who walked in the room about it..lol. I had my son at 4:31pm. It is not bad and you know when it is going to happen.. unlike unexpectly falling into labor ..say at walmart or something. Good luck and congrats!!

I was induced with my first son, he was very overdue (like a month), it wasn't that bad, a little weird, they just broke my water, and it brought on the labor. It only took four hours for him, and with my second son, they gave me pitocyn (?) to speed up my labor, he came in 25 minutes. Good luck and Congrats!
