find g(-x), simplify, and then see if what you get is equal to g(x), -g(x), or something else entirely, respectively.

On a side note, the reason why even functions are called even is because the behavior that f(x)=f(-x) is the behavior you would get from a polynomial whose only terms were of even powers (e.g. ax⁰+bx²+cx⁴...)

An even function means that all of the exponents of x are even or zero. (I don't want to start something about whether 0 is even or not). An odd function means that all of the exponents of x are odd. Neither means that some of the exponents are even, and some are odd.

The exponents of that equation are 2 and 0, so the function is even.

All terms are to an even power of x (-5=-5x^0) so it is even.
were all the exponents odd, it would be an odd function. If there are both even & odd exponents, it is neither.

It is even since all the powers are even.
