Reach for the Sky about Douglas Bader, he was played by Kenneth Moore, don't think there has been a remake.

The wonderful film was "Reach for the Sky", the true story (although dramatized a bit) of Sir Douglas Bader, who lost both his legs in a plane crash in 1931, but went on to be a pilot in the RAF and a hero in the Battle of Britain during the Second World War. When his plane was shot down, he was captured, and escaped POW camp despite his artificial legs.
The 1956 film starred Kenneth More, Alexander Knox, Nigel Green..

This is "Reach for the Sky" about a WWII pilot called Douglas Bader. It starred Kenneth Moore as D B and was released about 1960.
As the joke goes, "Douglas Bader, a leg end in his own lifetime"

The true story of Sir Douglas Bader . The film was called " Reach for the Sky". He lost his legs in a flying accident, and after being fitted with artificial legs he flew again. He was shot down ( by our old friend `friendly fire`) although he claimed to have had a mid air collision with a German plane. He was captured by the Germans and spent the remainder of the war in prison camps, amongst them, Colditz., the RAF arranged to fly out a new pair of legs for him and drop them near to the prison camp. The pilot of that plane was very brave to risk his life in that way.

Yes this was about Sir Douglas Bladder, inventor of Radar. He also invented the jet engine, in America I believe.
The first working television set was invented by a Scotsman incidentally. His name was John Yogi Bear.
