there was an egyptian pharoah named hapshepsut who wore a fake beard and did a lot of different things to look like a man. but people sort of knew she was a woman she dressed the way she did because alot of people in egypt had trouble accepting rule by a woman

Yeah, there was a female pope and also there was a woman in Eastern Europe who wanted to be a rabbi but couldn't because you had to be a man for that. So she dressed up as a man and bound her breasts etc. It was made into a movie with Barbra Streisand, I think it was called Yentl, but not sure.
Great question! Great motivation for young girls today who think that they have to be girly girls to get somewhere in life.

Throughout history, there were women who dressed in uniform to serve in various wars. This was especially true during the American Civil War. There are specific examples...I can't remember names, I will look for them and get back to you.
