I recruit at college job fairs. While it's understood that, on a campus setting, it's likely for job seekers to be dressed more casually than other job fairs, why not take advantage of the opportunity to stand out? A business suit may strike some as overkill, but if you're approaching my booth, I assume it means you're a serious contender. It should be conservative, professional, and dark in color.
Wow; I'm confused. The question was basically asking about how to make the best impression to a college recruiter, and the college recruiter is the one whose answer is downgraded. Someone out there isn't very bright. Don't expect a job from me.

In today's economy people really take notice of everything. I think that it sets young people apart when they dress nicely to an event such as this. So maybe try to dress it up with a jacket. I don't think a tie would be necessary but the collard shirt, dark wash jeans (it looks more professional and less casual) and a blazer would probably set you apart as someone who takes it more seriously.

A suit. If you don't have one and can't afford one, a sports jacket and tie is an option. The recruiters will get tons of resumes at this fair. Some will offer you an interview time on the spot at the company if you impress them enough. Others will make notes on your resume about how you presented yourself. In both cases, you will want to be in a suit, as they will note that.
Some companies will not care what you are wearing. So, in that case, it doesn't hurt you to be dressed more professional.

At a job fair you are making career contacts so treat it like an interview. For job interviews, it's always better to be too formal than too casual. No one will fault you for being formal - it will suggest that you are serious about your job search. Minimum of a white shirt, tie, black pants - all IRONED. Black shoes (not sneakers) - clean, no holes.
Good luck

I suggest that you wear a "I'm 4 Bush" button on a pair of dirty overalls. That way the recruiters will see how easy you are to manipulate and work for peanuts.
A little brown shoe polish on the end of your nose won't hurt either.

You could wear something semi casual like a shirt and a tie and any dark trousers you have ,but don't you ever think of wearing jeans unless it was BLACK .
Good Luck .

smart trousers, pressed shirt and NO trainers...................
I would double check re the suit thingy and as this is the FIRST time that some of the head hunters get to see you surely you should make the best impression at all times...........at the very least prove to them that you own some decent clothes.
Good luck and smell nice as well, actually would not hire a guy as he smelt like he had not bathed in weeks............

I would say a nice shirt, tie, and slacks. I wouldn't wear a suit. But, sometimes it depends on where you live. Some states have different standards.
