There aren't any codes that will dicount fares that are available to most folks. (Military discounts are available, but that's about it.)
One good way to find cheaper fares is to look online at the airline's website for web only fares. They are often cheaper, but more restricted.
Also look for flight really early in the AM or late at night to find the best deal. And it's almost always cheaper to make a connection.

There's no way that this purchase will go through without Anti-Trust issues. If an airline is going to buy American, I only see US Airways in the position of purchasing AA. They don't have as great of a hub presence and they would benefit from AA's international routes, especially to London-Heathrow, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Miami. AA also goes to Asia. Finally, since US Airways isn't big, they aren't really a key player in Star Alliance. With AA being a big player in One World, I think it is in their interest. Although Delta is my favorite airline, I personally do NOT warrant this purchase and as in the eyes of every traveler, the more airlines there are, the more competition, the lower the prices.
