I really like the name leland, not sure if I would name my child it, but its not horrific, plus Leland on bounty hunter is a hottie and has a strong family love, why not want that for your own child!
If it isnt a name your husband cares for, and doesnt budge on that, I would consider using it as a middle name and use a name you both can agree on for a first name!

I'm known for my strong dislike for weird, especially trendy names. You know what, I like Leland. A lot. I'm going to ask my wife to add this to our list.
Oh yea, I call BS on the prior poster's Happy Gimore comment. That person if full of it. How can someone who named their kid after Happy Gilmore have an 18 year old child when the movie only came out 11 years ago (1996?).

Well, do you really like the show, do you think it will be your favorite show forever?
Consider it like this. Say you got a tattoo saying "I luv John forever!!" You stop dating John, hate his guts now. Tattoo removal is expensive.
Say you end up hating the show after you saddle your child with that name. Changing your child's name can be expensive too. So you might just decide to keep his name Leland. He'll wonder about his name and you'll tell him you got off this show you loved years back that's no longer on/you can't stand.
First time I heard the name Leland was off the show Monk. Leland means Meadowland and it's an English Name http://www.babynames.com/Names/name_display.php?n=LELAND.
I had a friend who loved the movie Happy Gilmore. They actually named their boy Happy (believe it or not) Got teased tons in elementary and middle school. So in high school he went by Jeff. He legally got his name changed to Jeff once he was 18. (No I don't know the cost)
I would say pick a name that you like that's not associated with something in popular culture you like now...you may not like it down the road.

I love the name Leland. I actually wanted to name my son that and I had gotten it from a Stephen King book called Needful Things. My husband didn't like it either, so I lost that battle! Try to compromise with your husband and let him pick out the middle name. That way you both had a part in naming your child.

Never heard of the show but I really like the name!! How does it go with the last name? Other "L" names for boys, Linden, Levi, Lyric, Lazaro & Lloyd. Leland's great (Leeland, whichever), enjoy!

Leland sounds like a name a toothless woman would yell out the trailer door at supper time.
I'm with inhilljac, Happy Gilmore came out in 1996. Someone needs to check things out before they write lies...

I like it ^_^ I remember seeing that show once, and all I could think is... wow... this shows... odd... but thats an awesome name!!!!
Its really cool, it has a nice flow to it. And maybe let your husband pick a middle name. And the child can decide later on if he likes leeland or your husbands choice of name.

I love the name. It is one of the top 5 baby names i have on my list.
But i like this spelling of it better: Leeland
My husband, our son and i all have the middle name Lee so that is why i would name a kid that if i had another one cause i would just have to put Lee into somehow.

No............... What do you shorten it to for a nickname when the poor kid is playing basketball at the age of 15?
And naming him for a ex addict who is now a bounty hunter? Watch some other shows!
