This code is generated when there is a defect in the fuel pump circuit from the relay out to the pump, either control or ground. If the fuel pump is requiring more than nominal current, the computer may see the excess load and generates the code.
If you have the habit of driving the car a great deal of the time (not mileage, but time) with less than 1/4 tank of fuel, the lack of mass (fuel) to absorb the heat generated by the pump will cause the pump to overheat and begin to fail.
If this has been the case, you now know what is in store for you; replace the pump.
Then make it a point to fuel up between 1/4 and 1/3 tank so that there is enough fuel to help dissipate the heat.
Check also to see that the circuit is solid at all connections and grounds along the frame and to the engine and PCM.

Get rid of it. My mom has an '03 ford taurus and it's crap. The check engine light goes on and it stalls out. She took it to get it fixed and they cannont find anything wrong with it and keep sending it back to her. It still stalls out. Good luck.

yes you will find that fuel pump most likely in the gas tank, most likely a sensor
