The correct action to take is to call the police and advise the attacker from a safe distance that they are on their way. You could also say things like break it up, stop fighting, someone is going to get hurt. If you intervene, you could be putting yourself in harms way also. The law states that if you are been attacked, you can only use as much force is necessary to defend yourself. If you use more force than necessary, then you could get charged and have a possible law suit against you. You cannot kill the person, but if you want to get behind the attacker and try to stop the fight and hold him to the ground until the police come, I would think that would be ok. But again I must stress its risky business, especially if you wind up having to go to the hospital for medical treatment.

Yes. You may physically hurt another person either in self defense or in the defense of others. However, the force you use can only be the amount of force that it would take to stop that person from hurting you/the 3rd party. Meaning if attacker is only trying to break your arm, you can't kill them... but you can do anything up to breaking their arm (and more if you've broken their arm and they're still trying to hurt you after they've done that)... but the point is, you can't just shoot someone for committing a smaller offense... that's illegal and you'd go to jail.
There is an exception... if there's a trespasser in your house where you live, you have the right to shoot and kill them immediately without stopping to ask questions or anything. But ordinarily you have to use proportionate force.

A lot of that is because those particular Christians think that theirs is the only way and all others are wrong and unjustified in their complaints against them. Those particular Christians also take the greatest offense when the unpleasant and often bloody and antagonistic history of their religion is brought up. As another pointed out, those that react badly to the negative facts are the ones that commit the worst offenses and do the most to deny those negative facts ever happened or, worse yet, misdirect to the offenses of other religions and groups in order to avoid answering for why they do nothing to correct their negative image. You have to remember that they don't have to be accountable, because they are "forgiven" by their God, no matter what they do.

This is a situation that you need to be extremely careful in. You are allowed to help others if they are being attacked by another individual but be careful there are a couple of different ways you can get yourself into trouble. Be sure not to use excessive force or regardless of the situation you can be charged with assault. You also must be sure that the individual being attacked wants your help. A friend of mine witnessed a man beating his wife in a public place. When he began fighting with the man to help her at first she was grateful but ultimately he filed assault charges on my friend and she of course defended her husband and claimed that my friend attacked for no reason and denied that her husband had ever harmed her.

In America we have the right to defend what is known as a third person. Using the word kill is not a good word. Be sure the offense equals the defense or be prepared to do the time for a crime. why not call the cops, let them handle it.

Legally speaking you should only respond with proportionate force. It the victims life or your life is not in danger you would not be allowed to respond with lethal force.
If you want to avoid being sued by the attacker you should just call the police. They get paid to do what you seem to want to do. Maybe you should consider a career in law enforcement.

You have every right under the law (unless you're in San Francisco) to do whatever it takes to defend someone who is being attacked.
You're attitude is rare and commendable.
