Ok my attorney put in the wrong name (instead of mine) about 3 times. I was wondering what can be done to correct this so records will show MY name instead of this other persons name. I have had to copy my divorce decree in to the Attorney General and it is a bit embarrassing to be sending in documents that have an error in them. What do I do now to correct this? Please Help! FYI I have tried to contact my attorney yet he will not respond. Its getting a bit frustrating and I am guessing that now because the divorce is done that he is just wanting to move on and not too interested in helping me anymore. :o( It sucks I know but what do I do NOW that all of this is done...

I dont want to get him into trouble as he was helpful and my case ended up working out in my favor. All I really want is just the names to be fixed so when or if I EVER have to send it to anyone or just in general it will have MY name and not some other persons name.

Ok, even if you didn't pay him and he was nice and did a good job - you are entitled to have a decree that has your name in it! It is unprofessional and unacceptable for him to not respond to you and to not correct the document. You need to contact the bar association and file a complaint. He won't get in trouble but they will contact him and ask him to fix it. If he won't or can't usually they will hire another attorney to do the job at their expense (lawyers carry insurance for just this kind of thing.) You need to stop feeling indebted to him and recongnize that you were a client and he had a professional responsibility to do a proper job up until the end. Just think - if I was still a divorce attorney I would have gotten in big trouble with my bosses if I made a mistake like that!

Depending on what state you are in, contact the agency that disciplines attorneys. File a complaint against this nonresponsive attorney who refuses to fix such a mistake. I've given you a link that has a list of these agencies below:

Call or write the Attorneys Bar Association, they will make him fix this problem, and may even suspend his license. Should be in your phone book under State. State Bar Association, file a complaint, no charge

You've paid him. He should make the correction and file it. Call his office and make that request. Contact your local bar assn. and let them know that he did not do the job that you paid him for.
