For Compaq Presario 6000 Desktop PC Series they come with
1600 x 1200 with 75 HZ , but you can upgrade to 2048 x 1536 at 75 HZ (Max vid. resolution) with video memory 64 MB (keep in mind standard is 32 MB).
What makes a video card good...the pixil pipeline in the video card, which is the number of pixels the card can process at a time. Memory on your computer as you mentioned is important. I'm guessing the name brand and more expensive cards would be better, but I'm really not sure.

May I make a suggestion, try looking at the 9600GT cards, they are cheap but supposed to perform pretty good, not as good as the 8800GT cards though. Something you may want to check out. Ultra power supllies are good and cheap priced PSU's. A 550W would be what I would recommend. You do not need anything that would be overkill like an 800W or 1000W PSU. Not unless you plan on a new motherboard that supports SLI and running SLI using 8800GTX cards and a bunch of add ons.
