He started out as an isolationist, then realized the world needed our input and power to contain the insanity at that time. Russia was in a revolution, and Europe was engaged in WW1. We couldn't help Russia, but we did end WW1. His only naivete was believing the world would adopt his vision after WW1, that we, as a global family, could live together in peace. He offered up the League of Nations, and after his death, it was rejected by the other major countries. Noble? Everyone's definition is different on that, but his policies were derived in his wanting to better the world. As to someone else's answer that he was the worst President, he/she doesn't remember history class. James Buchannan by far was the worst, 1857-1861. Hope this helps you.

Both, but he was not as idealistic as some think!

I liked him because he laid a tax on the Rich!

He also, during his 2nd term, pushed through the constitutional amendment to give women the right to vote!

Extremely naive dilettante idealist. Pretty representative of Americans of the era.
Of course, given Bush and the Iraq fiasco, maybe naive idealism hasn't changed that much.

An isolationist, whose ideals weren't very reality based. While it is true that Otto von Bismarck managed some thirty years prior, to set up the first world war, Wilson managed to set up the second.

Naive idealist. Most of his adult life was spent in the groves of academia where he was insulated from reality.
