If you are serious about wanting to do it in "the nicest way possible", you should not simply quit. You should give two weeks' notice, present your immediate supervisor with a written letter of resignation, explaining briefly why you are leaving and expressing gratitude for the experience of having worked there. Not only will following the procedure outlined above be the correct method of leaving, but it should also ensure you of receiving any benefits, such as vacation time pay, which may be owed to you, plus enable you to use the company as a reference in the future.

Resignation letter would be the correct terminology!!! You can start off by stating that u've been w/the company for some odd years and that u appreciated the opportunity but ur ready for either a career change or advancement and where u are now u don't visualize urself moving upward.. Thank them and give them 2 wks notice..

Tell your boss you want to turn in your 2 week notice. He will find out sometime when you don't show up. And they will call you to see where you are.
