Kingdom of Heaven?

Question

oo heys!
after i watched the movie "Kingdom of Heaven"
i have a few questions:

1. why did godfrey go back to France and what he wanted to do there?

2. why were the crusaders important and what does it have to do with our history
3. was there a relationship between baldwin IV and Saladin?

1./ he went back to france to get Bailan since he knew he was gonna die

2./ the crusaders were important because it was a war of religion, it has to do with our history cuhs if it werent there, maybe the religion would be differnt (?)

3./ they were both kings, and enemies

Godfrey was returning from one crusade when he saw his illegitimate son. For knights like Godfrey I don't know if mercenary applies but if I remember correctly Godfrey didn't see it as a Holy War but more of an opportunity for his illegitimate son. Jerusalem was a rich city with trade and an economy which was in a much better state than most of Medieval Europe at the time.There were at least 9 crusades between 1095 and 1221.
For details I would use Wikipedia as a starting point I've attached links. Then use the references they use.
As a minor point Saladin was a Kurdish Muslim from Tiktrit in
Northern Iraq.

good questions...it is one of my all time fav movie :d
1.they returned to france after war...jerusalem was in peace with saladin..godfrey went there for food and shelter..though they returned back after that bloody fight in which he got deadly wounded

2.Crusades and crusaders..hmmmm people regard recent israel vs hamas clash as Modern Crusade...even iraq-usa war..

People who fought for the Holy Land..were the soldiers of highest rank..they fought as God's army...pretty amazing that muslims and christians believe in one god..(though they regard god in different manner) but that place was equally sacred for christians and muslims..as well as jews.
those wars had a great impact..since europe lost its glory in middle-east...they cam back after world-war I...gaining back what they have lost...and thus establishing israel...

3.there was no direct relation but baldwin and saladin respects each other a lot. thats why they were able to establish peace for a long time.
