Many of our local areas have local or county building departments. Call and get the Building Commissioners name.

The first thing I would do is to serve the landlord a written letter with a copy of the Mold Inspectors report and tell him you are giving him 5 business days to remediate the mold. If this issue is not addressed you will be forwarding this to Mr. ____ from the ____ building department. That usually gets them moving!

Just so you know, most molds can be killed with household bleach, but there are a few that can cause severe health issues. I'm sure if it this were a bad mold your contractor would have put the Village on alert himself and told your friend to get out.

Also note most of my leases on rentals call for a problem to be repaired within 72 hours or I have the right to order that repair and deduct or backcharge the owner. Check your lease.

Call the health department. Take pictures. They should send someone out and they will intercede for her.
