He lied about it because he was scared she would not have wanted to be with him and married to him otherwise. it was wrong that he lied ot her though but it is in the past so it needs to stay there and that is that. Has she asked him why he felt he had to lie about it? Maybe he will tell her why.

It was most likely because he wanted you to think more highly of him. It is kind of like when a man asks a woman how many men they have slept with and some tend to lie so the man doesn't think they are slutty, skanky, etc. It sounds like he had good intentions, not bad ones.

he was maybe scared, didnt want to screw up another relationship... and those words just came out of his head, no idea knowing how they will affect him later in his future.
